ANR Group Inc (ANR) in Richland will offer a comprehensive course for people interested in becoming Radiation Control Technicians, or Health Physics Technicians. Taking the course, and subsequently passing the Core Fundamentals Test are the first steps to a career path that ANR believes will be long and rewarding.

The class will start in 21 September 2011, and is geared towards working professionals--but enrollment is open to anyone.

Passing the HPT/RCT Core test is a major career milestone for workers in both the DOE and commercial nuclear world—and it’s a very difficult test with both written and oral components. ANR’s goal is to provide a top-quality educational experience for those wishing to enter this exciting field.

The class schedule will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:45pm to 8:45pm for 12 weeks in Richland. Prerequisites are high school graduation (or GED), and a good understanding of math and basic science.

The course will cover the DOE Core Fundamental Academics and Site Academics the way they were intended to be taught—in a classroom setting with a highly qualified instructor. The goal is to provide the student with the best possible instruction to allow them to pass the RCT Core exam, which is a requirement to get into a career in radiation control as an entry-level technician.

This course is for anyone with a solid understanding of basic mathematics interested in passing the HPT/RCT Core exam desiring to become a Health Physics Technician, or Radiation Control Technician. Passing the test is an absolute requirement before starting work in these fields. The test is not easy and requires significant preparation to successfully pass it with a required score of 80% or better.

ANR’s instructor for this course is JJ Davis, NRRPT, CHP. Mr. Davis holds a B.S. in Radiation and Nuclear Technology from Oklahoma State University, and graduate studies in Radiological Sciences from the University of Washington. He has over 35 years of professional experience in radiation protection.

According to Will Baumann of ANR Group Inc, “The class covers a lot of material, and moves along at a fast pace with significant study and reading required on the student’s part. Although there is no guarantee of test passage, we strongly believe that students who apply themselves in this class--and study the materials will do well. It’s estimated that 38% of nuclear workers are over the age of 50, and the nuclear industry will have to replace about 25,000 workers by 2015. We believe there will be an ongoing demand for qualified HPTs and RCTs locally, nationally, and world-wide.”
